Important - Prescription System

PATIENT ACCESS is the easiest way to order your repeat prescription. It provides a more comprehensive service that is designed to meet the requirements set by NHS England for patients.

Ordering Prescriptions

Patients can request their repeat medication in a variety of ways, including via;

1. Reception
   Patients should complete a prescription order form and put it in the prescription box at reception.

2. Patient Access
   All patients are able to sign up to Patient Access and order their repeat medication online; such requests will fall immediately into our clinical system. click here to order your prescription.

3. Telephone

   Patients cannot order prescriptions over the telephone unless they are;

   • Aged 18 years or younger or aged 75 years or older.

   • A resident within a care/nursing home.

   • Clinically exempt. (See below for details.)

   • Ordering an acute item.

4. Third Party Ordering

   Pharmacies including appliance companies cannot order on behalf of patients. All patients must directly request their own medication unless they have been clinically exempt from this scheme. This is a CCG initiative.

For patients to be able to order their repeat prescription they must:

• Not order more than 7 days before their current prescriptions is due to expire
• Have had the drug/s issued within the last 6 months
• Be up-to date with their medication reviews
• Allow 2 working days for us to safely process their request:

ELECTRONIC PRESCRIBING SERVICE:

You can now have your medication sent directly to your nominated pharmacist, without the need to come into the surgery to pick up the paper prescription (FP10). Please nominate your pharmacist with us and the service commences instantly.

Warfarin

When requesting Warfarin medication please let the practice know the following information:

• Your last INR result
• The date of your last blood test
• Your current warfarin dose
• The date your next INR blood test will be due

Medication Reviews

Patients on repeat medication will be asked to see a doctor, nurse practitioner or practice nurse at least once a year to review these regular medications and notification should appear on your repeat slip. Please ensure that you book an appropriate appointment to avoid unnecessary delays to further prescriptions.

Please allow two full working days for prescriptions to be processed and remember to take weekends and bank holidays into account.

Prescriptions Charges and Exemptions

Extensive exemption and remission arrangements protect those likely to have difficulty in paying charges (NHS prescription and dental charges, optical and hospital travel costs).

The NHS prescription charge is a flat-rate amount which successive Governments have thought it reasonable to charge for those who can afford to pay for their medicines. Prescription prepayment certificates (PPCs) offer real savings for people who need extensive medication.

NHS charges

These charges apply in England only. In Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales prescriptions are free of charge.

• Prescription (per item): £9.35
• 3-month PPC: £30.25
• 12-month prepayment certificate (PPC): £108.10

If you will have to pay for four or more prescription items in three months, or more than 15 items in 12 months, you may find it cheaper to buy a PPC.

Private Prescriptions

A fee of £15.00 is chargeable per prescription. This fee must be paid on collection of the prescription.
