Buckshaw Village Surgery has been in existence since July 2009.
When we initially opened we were located in the Oakbridge Retirement Village, where we operated for almost 3 years whilst we awaited the opening of our new building.
During this time in the retirement village, we developed a number of unique services directly with the management of the centre to focus on the needs of patients with Dementia.
These services have continued, and today we maintain a branch surgery within the Oakbridge Complex where we offer a safe and tailored primary care service for patients with the most severe Dementia conditions.
Information on the Retirement Village can be found here
We have worked closely with the Management of the Oakbridge Retirement Village since the very beginning. They, like us, have been keen to pioneer the services available to their residents. A decision to expand the number of apartments in the LODGE resulted in the old surgery space being earmarked for conversion. However, and thanks to the foresight of the Oakbridge Management, a newly built GP Consultation Room was drawn up in the plans. On 24th November 2014 we opened our new room in the Market Square area of the LODGE.
Pictures of the completed room are shown below:
With over 200 residents in the Retirement Village, it would be simply impossible to see patients on a home visit basis and this room was jointly designed and funded to provide a solution for all involved.
This is the only room of this type we are aware of in the UK. It provides us with an on site solution for meeting the primary care health needs of our most vulnerable dementia patients who would ordinarily be transported to a surgery at great distress to them and their families.
