In addition to GP consultations the Practice offers a comprehensive range of clinics and healthcare services:
Heart disease prevention
Our Practice provides comprehensive health checks including smoking cessation, healthy eating, alcohol consumption, blood pressure checks, exercise advice and cholesterol screening. This test is available once in every 5 years to patients aged between 40yrs to 74yrs. Appointments are systematically sent out for these checks. You will be asked to come for a fasting blood test first and then be given an appointment to see the nurse following that.
It is a very worth while check as it detects certain conditions that you may not be aware of.
Chronic Disease Management
Patients who suffers from the following conditions will be sent an appointment at least once a year to attend for a check-up. The appointment letter will specify all the details and if you are not able to keep the appointment please phone surgery for an alternative date.
- Diabetes
- Heart Disease
- Stroke/TIA
- Asthma
- COPD
- Epilepsy
- Hypertension
- Certain Mental Health Illness
- Rheumatoid arthritis
- Chronic Kidney disease
Patients with Thyroid Disease are advised to have a blood test once a year.
Other Services
Maternity Care
Complete ante and post natal care is available at the Practice and is usually provided by the midwife and the female doctor. There is a choice for delivery – The Midwifery Unit in Chorley Hospital, a specialist unit at Royal Preston Hospital, Ormskirk & District Hospital or Southport Maternity Hospital. A regular antenatal clinic is run every Wednesday morning.
Please note the Practice does not provide intrapartum care.

Baby and Childhood Immunisations
We run a full vaccination and immunisation programme. Childhood immunisations are usually carried out in the child health clinic on Friday morning between 10:00 and 11:00, along with post natal and baby development checks. The Health Visitor is also available for all advice during this time.
Family Planning Service
A full range of family planning services is available at the Practice including advice on emergency contraception and pre-conception counselling. This is provided during normal surgery hours.
Coil fitting and implant are provided at local Family Planning Clinics.
Cervical Smear Tests
It is very important for all women between the ages or 25yrs and 65yrs to regularly have cervical smear test.This test detects changes well before a cancer may develop. You will receive a reminder by post when your smear is due.
A smear test is performed during normal surgery hours by the female doctor or the Practice Nurse. Patients are requested to notify staff in advance that they will be attending for a smear test.
Minor Surgery
Certain surgical procedures can be performed on Surgery premises. Please ask at Reception for details.
Travelling Abroad
Please make an appointment with the Practice Nurse for the necessary vaccinations and advice regarding other health matters. Vaccinations for travel abroad should be planned 8 weeks before travelling. Click here for more information.
Vaccinations
Flu vaccinations are offered in autumn each year to all of the Practice patients aged 65 and over and some younger patients who have certain chronic conditions.
For tetanus a full course and boosters are available. Please ask at Reception.
